Video Distortion
I am working with .mov files that are 1280×1080. When I bring them into Vegas 10, the video is being crunched (think of the Paula Abdul video “Promise of a new day” where everything looks thinner)
I have tried adjusting the project properties and everything else I can think of but nothing is working. Any advice will be GREATLY appreciated.

Did you try to use the pan/crop tool, right clip and choose match output aspect?

I tried to match the output aspect. I think that since maybe the issue is that since its a .mov file that was shot on a Panasonic camera?
Maybe it would be best to convert it to another file before editing it? Need to look into a good conversion program

1280×1080 is a very odd resolution. I would buy a new camera that shoots standard video formats.
If you want full HD output, the best you can do is to use an HD 1920×1080 project and drop the footage in there. It will have huge black pillarbox bars on either side because it’s using an almost square aspect but you can’t help this. The camera shoots a non-standard format.
Your next option is to use a 1280×720 project and on each event go into Pan/Crop and use Match Output Aspect and crop the video to 16:9. This will crop a lot of video from the top and bottom so you may need to shift the crop up or down to make sure that you don’t cut subjects heads off.
Finally, your last option is to use an NTSC DV project and on each event go into Pan/Crop and use Match Output Aspect and crop the video to 4:3. This will crop a little off the top and bottom to make the aspect 4:3. The downside is that you won’t have HD anymore.
How were you planning on delivering the video? Blu-ray? DVD? YouTube?
