I have been having this problem: Just about two weeks ago, my Sony Vegas 7.0 Pro started giving me hell on rendering. Anytime I try to render any part of my new movie, SV either closes, gives me an error message, or acts like it is going to render but sits at 0% for hours while the timer keeps counting.

Whenever It gives me an error, it tells me that I don’t have enough memory (RAM) to render, but I have been using SV on this computer for almost a year now.. Whenever I try to render the timeline as an .avi, it crashes also..

The RARE times it does start to render, it renders the audio all the way up to where the vid starts and then crashes.. Only in .avi will it render ANY part of the timeline..

I have reinstalled SV and tried many troubleshooting options.. I have Vista x64, 4GB of RAM, quad core 1.8GHz, and an nvidia geforce 9400gt slightly overclocked…

PS: I have recently downloaded Sony Vegas 8.0 and it won’t even open for me, it starts to load up the stuff and then just closes.

Heat, antivirus, bad file, HDD that is over filled, lacking buffer space, bad RAM, new codec load, bad third party reader…these can all cause the symptoms you’re describing.

How long is the project? Can you open Vegas without opening the project? Is your drive filled so there is no temp space?
    Codecs in the project?
Large still images in the project?

What is the scoop on large images? Can Vegas not handle those of a certain size. I zoom in quite often and would like a guideline as to what is a reasonable size that I might still obtain a strong zoom.

    How would I check those..

The project is like most of my vids, about 5 min long 720p with coloring and, every now and then, a special effect (FPS game montage)..

This one started out about 1:30:00 long with my uncut clips, once i cut the clips to what i wanted, it was about 20 min long…basically i cut the clips i want (usually about 20min), then i import my songs and begin to decide which of those clips go best with it, so, when i go to render anything it is on the tailend of the 20 min part of the timeline.. idk if that explains it well enough.. the part im trying to render right now is only like 15sec long though :S… i know what im doing, i have it highlighted and everything lol so dont ask me if i did that…

it was rendering fine at first, the next day it was messing up.. the only image i have in it is the little guy in the right hand corner https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O-nZfX6_ZhU&fmt=22 …. ignore the bad gameplay, wasnt a clip i was gonna use, just a test for the name tag… ANYWAYS, so yeah, that’s about it
