Easiest Way: DV to DVD?
Hi all, I have Vegas and also DVD Architect. I want to take my parents’ old Hi8 tapes and convert them to DVD for them as a gift. I can transfer the footage to my computer using a firewire connection. I would like to find the easiest workflow for taking a whole tape and converting it intact to a DVD (there are a lot of tapes). I know I could transfer the footage as an AVI, render it as mpeg2 in Vegas, then load the mpeg2 in Architect to create my Video_TS folder. But since I don’t need to do any editing, I’m hoping I could bypass Vegas altogether. Is there any way to import video directly into Architect? Or does Vegas have an option to create a Video_TS folder?
Basically I’m just hoping to avoid the extra rendering time for each tape, considering the transfer to the computer alone will take 2 hours.

You can capture footage, put it on the Vegas timeline and burn a single play DVD (no menu – it just starts playing when loaded) right from there.

In Vegas, would that be Tools->Burn Disc->Video Disc? That doesn’t sound quite right. It’s not giving me a DVD option anywhere I can find.

You must not have Vegas 9. In Vegas 9, DVD is an option under Tools>Burn Disc

I just checked – Vegas Pro 9! Strange… I’ve got Track-at once audio cd, disc at once audio cd, video cd, multimedia cd, and blu-ray disc as options.

I’m sure there is some technical reason for this that can be fixed. You might try uninstalling and reinstalling. Do you have DVDA installed? The DVD option might require it be installed. I just remembered that I do have Vegas Production Assistant installed and it *might* be part of that. You could call or email Sony Media customer service if you can’t get it to show up.

Tools > Burn Disc > DVD is a feature that was added in Pro 9.0d so make sure you’re using at least that version (9.0e is the latest one).
