Setting Default Fade types ( did I read correctly )
PLEASE READ DOWN things changed during this post but not what i want!
I’m really confused.. at some point i got Vegas 8 (PRO ) to do the same audio fade type at each edit…
In reading some say you can.. some say you can’t and right now I can’t!
I’m trying to get a fast fade ( the third one down that looks like a ski slope ).. it works well for applause!..
Any definitive answers or work a rounds??
One would think that Sony would have the forethought to be able to specify a fade type.. it makes no blooming sense to have to go into edit after edit and right click and specify a fade type.
Rank that one a big -10 for productivity! And then .. any clues on how I stumbled on it before? I’m sure i went into:
Options/ preferences / editing / and adjust audio fade type ( at the bottom of the screen)that did not work
Then i just disabled quick fade audio edits and Auto cross fades
NOW.. I have my preferred fade type on the “in edit”.. but not the “out edit”..
Obviously.. the applause is on the “out edit” so I REALLY need it there! and over the course of the next couple of weeks.. I’m talking hundreds of edits!!
Has anyone dealt with this with any degree of success??

OK thanks all!! Sorry to rant.. I’m just frustrated with all of the unnecessary right clicking and selecting the same thing over and over and over!

Excalibur can certanly change the fade type. It will also change the fade length, though. But it can certainly change the fade type of all selected events.

I’ve been hunting for a solution to this for Movie Studio HD 10. I finally started digging in the internal preferences (Shift+Click Preferences on the Options menu and click the Internal tab) and found the answer. This may well apply to Vegas Pro too…
In the Internal Prefs panel, look for eDefEnvAudioASRType (type “env” in the Show Only text box to narrow down the list). The default in VMS-HD 10 is 2, which means a fast log fade… why oh why did they pick this as the default for audio?
Change the value to your preference from the table below. I use smooth, which is the default for video and gives good-sounding audio fades in/out and constant-level crossfades.
2 = fast log
1 = linear
-2 = slow log
4 = smooth cubic
-4 = sharp cubiceDefEnvVideoASRType is the corresponding setting for video track fades.
Hope this helps! It’s certainly saved me changing lots of fades manually…

An update to the default fade type…
The default for audio is “fast log” fade. This isn’t usually the best choice for fading audio in/out from silence. I find “smooth” or “slow” to sound better for this, as the fade is more gradual and mimics what you get with a mixing desk or amplifier volume control.
However… the default of “fast log” is the better choice for audio crossfades because it results in constant-volume crossfades. This is not what I expected. I assumed smooth or linear would give a constant-volume crossfade but no, they result in a 3dB dip in output level at the mid-point of the crossfade. Try some crossfades on a noise sample (or sustained applause, etc) to see the effect.
For video crossfades, the “fast” and “slow” fade type result in a flash-like transition as the composite level rises (for fast) or falls (for slow) slightly at the midpoint. This is particularly noticeable on clips of similar brightness (try it with a solid grey generated media). The other fade types are “neutral” in this respect. I stick to “smooth” or “linear”.

I was asking the same and trying to leave default the linear fade for audio and video in Vegas Pro 13. Did you found the answer without have to buy an expensive third party plugin?
