Mark’s Bitrate Calculator: Go with the defaults?
Vegas made the last MPEG-2 too large, and the help menu won’t come up in Mark’s Bitrate Calculator (because of Vista?).
Project is HD 1080-60i (1920 x 1080, 29.97). Length is 1:48:48;01. Audio is 44.1k, 16 bit.
In Mark’s Bitrate Calculator I select DVD-R (4.700 GB).
Vegas says 192 Kbps for the audio, so I enter that (I plan to render the video and audio streams separately).
I rounded up the total time to 1:48:49.It is just a simple 1:48:48;01 talk, with no intro or anything. I just put in markers every ten minutes, in case people want to stop/start. Do I just leave the rest of the values at their default?

OK, now I’m really confused. The last MPEG-2 render (using Vegas’ defaults) says 4,829,169 in Windows Explorer, so I assumed that is too big for a 4.7 GB DVD-R (seeing as I still have to render the audio stream).
However, I went to delete it, and the confirmation dialogue identifies it as a 4.60GB file.
Do I need to re-render? Or is this file size good?

According to the BitRate Calculator at VideoHelp.com, 1:48:48 of video should use an average bitrate of 5,376,000 in Vegas.

I’m re-rendering but I won’t know until morning 🙂
It gives a maximum suggested bitrate, but what about the minimum? Does it matter?

Bit rate calculators can only provide an estimate!
The minimum bit rate really doesn’t effect much.
Round down the max bitrate. Never up.Yes, the other defaults are needed because even if you don’t have a menu, subtitles, or other assets, the DVD spec *still* requires the structure in the VOB file, and that consumes some space.
