  Dynamic RAM Preview settings

  In the VASST Absolute Training DVD1, DSE recommends setting Dynamic RAM Preview at half of available RAM, but does not say why. On his machine in the video he had 1MB RAM, so he set Dynamic RAM Preview at 500K.

  If I have a Vista x64 machine with 8MB RAM, but am using Vegas Pro 9.0e x32 (because some of the plug-ins I want are 32 bit-only), what do I set Dynamic RAM Preview to? And how would that change if I were to run Vegas Pro 9.0e x64?

  Firstly, I assume you mean GB instead of MB. I think the amount you allocate to dynamic ram preview is a matter of personal preference. Do you often find yourself hitting Shift+b and not having it finish the area you selected to preview? I have 6GB and only use 1GB for the preview because I generally just need to preview short HD bits a couple seconds long.

  Now I’m running 64 bit so I’d say go ahead and use half your ram if you really need that much for previewing, but I’m guessing that the 32 bit version of Vegas is actually limited to 3.2GB? I’m just assuming that’s the case though so if anyone knows for sure let me know.
