  • Best Cheap, 64bit, Noise Reduction Plugin?

Posted by Tevya Washburn on June 11, 2010 at 8:20 pm

I’ve been using Virtos DeNoiser plugin, but they don’t work with 64bit. I’m using Vegas 8.1 on Win7 64bit, because Vegas 8.0 won’t read the video that the camera I’m using, shoots. This is a project that I need to finish quickly, so I don’t want to take time to render all the video into a compatible format. Nor do I want to have to export the audio, clean it up with SoundBooth (or Virtos in Vegas 8.0), then re-import it. So I was wondering if anyone knew of a cheap but good noise removal/reducer plugin that’s comparable to Virtos, but is 64bit compatible?

Thanks in advance for any help.

iZotope RX is about the best noise reduction software I have found and it works in 64-bit Vegas Pro.

Wow, I’d love to get that. But when I said cheap, I meant like in the sub-$100 range. I’m not a full-time professional, and can’t afford to fork over that much for it (that’s why I’m still using Vegas 8). Any other ideas?

The latest Beta version of Audacity supports Windows 7 and it’s free.
Be sure to read their notes about it as it is a Beta version.

Thanks Mike. But again, I was hoping for a plugin. I have SoundBooth and could always export the audio, clean it there, then re-import it, but was hoping to save that time by using a plugin that would plug directly into Vegas 8.1’s track audio.

Make SoundBooth your default audio editor in Vegas.
Options – Prefs -Audio – Preferred Audio Editor and browse to the appropriate folder.
Then all you have to do is right-click an audio event and select “Open copy in audio editor”.
This way, a new take is created over top of your existing audio track.

Really!? Its that easy? Wow. It seems like I tried that before (or maybe it was Photoshop as the image editor), and that’s why I didn’t think to try it here…. I’ll give it a shot. Thanks!
