A disk system that only spins up when you need to access files isn&#8217;t quite a thing, other than single hard drives that&#8217;ll be in a semi-sleep state, but performance is terrible, and the words &#8220;archive&#8221;&hellip;</p>

If you keep getting cleaning warnings, then the head can be bad on the drive.</p>
<p>Using the wrong media type ruins the head over time.  </p>

QNAP is a great choice.  </p>

<p>With BackBlaze be warned that it is not for backups only and not archive.  You must keep the original data on the source NAS or they delete it from the cloud backup eventually.  </p>

<p>I&#8217;m an LTO tape guy, but wouldn&#8217;t recommend it in your situation unless it&#8217;s what you&hellip;</p>

The OP was mentioning it didn&#8217;t work on Windows for him as well and I noticed OWC advertises Windows compatibility, while not holding Intel / Thunderbolt certification for Windows per the Intel&hellip;</p>

<p>Since you said HP LTO6, I have to ask.  What brand of cartridges are you using?  You need to be using metal particle (MP) tapes in an HP LTO6.   Sony and other off-brands made the MP LTO6 tapes before, but they&#8217;ve stopped making them for quite a while.  If you have IBM or Fuji those are&hellip;</p>

OWC has not passed certification for Windows, so that&#8217;s why you&#8217;re probably not getting anywhere.  MagStor is the only Thunderbolt 3 drive certified for Windows, and also has Apple M1 compatibility to boot.</p>

<p>Cache uses standard TAR, so you can use any LTO3 or LTO4 drive to restore those.  Let me know if you&#8217;d like me to get you a quote for a drive to use, or we can offer Cache restores as a service if you send them in to us.  </p>
