They&#8217;ve always worked great so I&#8217;ve never looked into it. Good to know there&#8217;s an issue though. Thanks for the heads up.</p>
<p>So AFPS is the way to go, but it&#8217;s for Mac only right? Is there a usable format that&#8217;s able to communicate with both Mac and PC like ExFat? </p>

That&#8217;s interesting to hear. I&#8217;ve been using ExFat daily for about 16 years with fcp. Over 100 features, shorts, commercials, etc. I&#8217;ve never noticed any issues or had this specific problem. Thanks for the heads up. I&#8217;ll look into that. </p>

<p>there&#8217;s 5.7TB of space, out of 8TB total. The drive is ExFAT instead of APFS, but I&#8217;ve used ExFAT for about a decade and never had the issue before. Unless that&#8217;s a new problem with the newer OS.</p>

The footage is all on an external hard drive. Another thing about it is that it frequently &#8220;goes red&#8221; when the computer goes to sleep and I click the space bar to wake it up.</p>

I&#8217;m editing a feature and the audio clips occasionally all show red and I can&#8217;t see the waveforms. However, the clips are all still linked and still play. Sometimes they&#8217;ll turn back to blue and show waveforms and sometimes they don&#8217;t. I can restart fcpx and sometimes it fixes it and&hellip;</p>

If you put it in the timeline and cut out the problem area it does indeed export correctly.</p>
<p>Now I&#8217;m wondering if I should just skip transcoding everything to the same codec/frame rate and just import it all as is, edit the project and then see if it&#8217;ll export after&hellip;</p>

Since I&#8217;m looking at possibly buying both I&#8217;d like to keep the total around $2500 or under if possible with used options. I&#8217;ve been editing 4k for years with proxy files and that&#8217;s worked great. I don&#8217;t have a personal need to film/edit higher than 4k but it could come up eventually. I&#8217;m open to various apple options. </p>

<p>I&#8217;m hoping this is the correct forum. I&#8217;m trying to import old footage from mini DV tapes I used years ago. I have the camera they were recorded on, which is a Canon HV20. I&#8217;m also plugging it into an outlet versus using its battery. </p>
<p>When I tried a Firewire 4 pin to USB cable on my current iMac the computer wouldn&#8217;t recognize the camera.&hellip;</p>
