I think I set the Z dimensions all to 0 so it shouldn&#8217;t be&hellip;</p>

<p>I&#8217;ve just had to create an animation where different coloured squares scale up from zero size at random positions until they form a full grid of squares. No squares can appear on top of others.</p>
<p>My method was to create the zero to 100% square animation as a composition, add that as a layer in a new composition (with an expression to randomise&hellip;</p>

BUT if I try to move the imported comp, the matte moves as before.</p>

<p>I haven&#8217;t posted on the Cow for <i>years</i> &#8211; glad to see it&#8217;s still here!</p>
<p>I&#8217;ve been using Set Matte to use a single shape layer as a non-moving mask for several other layers.</p>
<p>It works like a dream on shape layers and text layers, but if I import .pngs or Illustrator files as layers and try to do the same thing, <i>those</i> layers move and scale the mask as&hellip;</p>
