I had an ‘appearance’ object activated on a path. I had to clear this in order to stop the shape of the layer from affecting the color of other objects.

As far as sorting out layers for optimal performance I learned to divvy up my project into separate compositions and have them all linked in the ‘project’ tab. This seems to work for me. Thank you, Hector. ‘Sorry to check out for a while

I checked the indexes for both sampled and produced colors, it’s #B3B3B3. I checked the opacity settings as well. I switched the dark object to the layer the sampled object is in, that didn’t prove anything to me.

There are hundreds of shapes layers(all of them will be animated shortly) due to the conversion and it’s slowing down the app. I tuned up the the settings for better performance and it helps a bit but what about linking objects? Is there anything I can do about that? Thank you
