I work in FCE 4 and see that error message often. Usually I quit the program and when I reopen, the problem is resolved. A few times, I had to quit AND restart the computer. This happens sometimes while rendering, sometimes trying to save, sometimes while trying to export. I think it’s just an annoying quirk of a very old software.

I’m no maven. But my Canon HG10 and HG20 import just fine into Final Cut Pro (the “new one”).
