SD Timeline Set-Up & Management for 2k delivery

Hey all, I am about to (finally) start editing some footage I shot SD back in 2008 and I want to set up my Resolve timeline for success.

It was shot on a DVX100a / 24p / SD with a RedRock Micro 35mm lens adapter (180° rotated image, baked in grain).

I have a lot of footage and I want to make sure I am setting up my project / timeline…

Thanks for the tips!… I should have mentioned that I was looking for something on the more portable side as I am on location all the time and will occasionally need to fly with both my LTO and my drive solution… I was (am) looking at the OWC GEMENI which I found several hours after writing this post.. the speed isn’t crazy but the +/- 400…

I am looking for recommendations on high capacity +4TB solutions suitable for LTO 8 Thunderbolt writing sessions… All I am finding are the ultra cheap but slow 4/5TB USB external drives, and then the super expensive m.2 drives which have speeds that are totally overkill for LTO write sessions… I realize there may not be a solution but I am…

LTO write speed matches the read speed of the hard drive you’re reading from. I haven’t come across a lower limit, and I often have to backup to LTO-8, from 2.5″ portable drives that read at 60 MB/sec when full. I’ve even seen speeds as low as 40 MB/sec.

Writing to LTO takes longer with file sequences like .dpx, .ari, .arx, .tga etc. meaning…

Therefore, during the course of backup/archive of your folder, you’ll find the data-rate to tape will slow while reading many small files, and speed up when reading large files. There’s not a lot that you can do to overcome this, just the way of things.

OK that is great to know… I still think something was acting funny as 5.5hrs for 9.5…

So your LTO 8 drive will be spinning at its ‘top speed’ when date is arriving at 360Mb/sec, but as the incoming data-rate slows, the drive will be able to slow down to match.
