If you go through the update dialog you shouldn’t have to manually install anything. Once I told it to update it just progressed to the installation automatically. Although, for the previous update I did have exactly what John described happen on one computer once and worked fine the second time.

As a follow-up to this, I tried dropping the files into Premiere and they’re out of sync in the timeline already there, but they play fine in VLC and the Vegas timeline, so those are somehow compensating for whatever causes the sync issue, Vegas just isn’t doing it when rendering out.
