You’re right that it is quite standard and essential for pro platforms and odd as heck that FCPX doesn’t have it, especially after so much time “maturing”. Avid has always had it (and done it well). Davinci has it. Premiere has it.

FCP 7 (Final Cut “Classic”) could do it.
