I started out looking for the PCI card we used, then got distracted by the profusion of Thunderbolt cards and as you say, got myself in a mix up between the old FireWire 400/800 and Thunderbolt 2 &amp; 3.</p>

<p>I use it for both regular bootable cloning of my drive and for creating hourly backups of a clients server so that when they accidentally delete a file or worse, a folder, I can go into the Safety copy and restore within minutes. </p>

<p>Your Backup Plus is pre-formatted GUID NTFS, which is primarily designed for a Windows OS setup.<br />
Apple being very aware of the need to fit in with the Windows market, decided some time ago to allow you to read NTFS formatted drives, then more recently to read &amp; write to NTFS volumes.</p>
