Quite simple.

1) It is basically no different than connecting your computer to an external drive where you store the original media.
2) The other party has to download the media and keep the exact same structure in their HD.
3) From there on you can exchange XML files.

We have been trying to distant based collaborate with other editors. So far we found that GoogleDrive is quite effective. If you have experience using FCPX and GoogleDrive. Please share your experience or workflow with us and others.
