  • SonyVegas 10 won’t open after last updating

Posted by Dinour Bron on January 25, 2011 at 11:02 pm

    Hi,
I’ve downloaded and installed the last updating of Sony Vegas 10 today, it all went well but after restarting my computer as was instructed, neither the Vegas Pro 10, nor the new icon of Vegas 100, won’t open. When I double-click the icon – nothing happen. Dead.

    What to do?

    Thanks. D. Bron

That doesn’t sound good. I would do a complete uninstall, reboot, then re-install and see if it clears things up.

Thank you. I did as you recommended. So far it’s working fine.
Now, what do you think: Should I or shouldn’t I install the updates, especially when promoted to do so because of some issues? If yes – are there any precautions to take?

[Dinour Bron] ” Should I or shouldn’t I install the updates, especially when promoted to do so because of some issues? “

Most of the time they work fine so I would just install the update over the existing version.

Make sure that Vegas is not running in memory. Lot’s of times when I close Vegas is hangs in memory for some reason. This would mess up an update because the program is still running and locking files. I would use the Task Manager to make sure that Vegas is not in memory or just reboot before updating to make sure Vegas is cleared from memory.

Thanks. Done all as you said and here are the results:

The update blocked the program from opening, even when it was shut and I reboot the computer before updating.

So I did some experiments: First I tried to delete the update (and reboot computer). Program didn’t open. So I uninstalled (+reboot) and reinstalled (+reboot)Vegas. Program worked. I then updated again, and the program froze again. So – uninstalled (+reboot) and reinstalled(+reboot), but this time I left the updates where they were, I didn’t delete them.

And the program works fine, so far.

I wonder though if the updates are working, but how can I know? Any suggestion?

Anyway, I suppose I’ll continue as it is until the next crisis, or the next update-call, and see then…

    Many thanks, Dinour

On my machine 10a and b just updated on top as most updates do but c made me uninstall v10 and after install of 10c showed up as v10c and all is well. You can look in help/about to see which version you are at…this is on a W7pro64bit machine…bob

Thanks for the advice, but must admit I’m not sure what to do… I’m new to video editing… Anyway, my Vegas is 10.0a, and if I understood you right – my “machine” is Windows xp pack 3. Does it help?

    Thanks. Dinour

xp sevice pack 3 is fine. I would do b and then do c but as I mentioned I had to uninstall b before I could put in c. Just make sure you are not trying to put the 64bit version on your 32bit machine..

    Hi. Thanks. BUT –
I’ve been searching for the updates you recommended (10.0a, 10.0b) in the Sony website, update page, but the only update I can find for Vegas 10 (32bit) is 10.0c.
Any idea how I can find the a & b?
